Build started!

After a slightly delayed start, the build is finally underway!

After all the enquiries, planning and discussion, it almost seems unreal that the slab of steel on the floor is going to become my boat! It's equally hard to believe that this massive lump of steel will actually float!

Because I had insisted on 208cm wide baseplate, the guys at XR&D had to buy in 250cm wide material and cut it down. 208cm baseplate gives a vertically-sided hull, which results in nearly 3" of extra width at floor level. It also makes it much easier to install square items, like fridges and cookers.

I was really pleased to see that they had interpreted my requirement for the S-shaped swim so well. The idea of this style of swim, is that it will allow a smoother flow of water to the prop and improve handling when reversing.

Having visited the Crick boat show last weekend, discussions with Michigan and Cheshire Marine resulted in the decision being a four-bladed 20" x 14.5" prop. This has allowed us to spec the swim/draught as 24" deep.

Looking forward to seeing the next batch of photos!

Maiden voyage and cooker!

It's been an eventful few days! We've been enjoying a spell of unseasonably warm weather, which was predicted to end on the last day...
